  • Angie's List Award
Dr. Jack W. Behn has won the Angie’s List’s Super Service Award for General Dentistry.
"I feel like the service I receive from Dr Behn has been excellent. He and his staff are timely, courteous and best of all, the work they have done on my teeth was relatively painless. Dr Behn was also kind enough to call me the evening after putting a cap on one of my teeth just to see how I was doing and make sure there was no pain or discomfort. It's a nice touch, and shows that he genuinely cares about his patients."
    Josephm, Deerfield B

MyPerioPath® and MyPerioID® PST® are salivary tests that determine the cause of periodontal infections and who are at increased risk for severe periodontal disease respectively.

MyPerioPath® Identifies the type and concentration of specific perio-pathogenic bacteria that are known to cause periodontal disease. MyPerioPath® helps support the clinician with better risk assessment and personalized treatment options for more predictable patient outcomes.

MyPerioID® PST® Identifies individual genetic susceptibility to periodontal disease and enables the clinician to establish which patients are at increased risk for more severe periodontal infections due to an exaggerated immune response.

Current research is confirming a link between common gum disease and heart disease. The presence of gum disease makes it twice as likely for patients to have a fatal heart attack. The more we learn about the common links between cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease, the more we understand the importance of the role of managing periodontal disease for aiding in the control of these other clinical conditions. When gums are inflamed, the bacteria and inflammatory mediators of periodontal origin do enter the bloodstream daily and can participate in the atherosclerotic process. We have evidence that gum disease increases the C-reactive protein levels and the elimination of gum disease results in an impressive reduction in CRP levels. The medical research is now saying it clearly: the byproducts of periodontal disease appear to have an effect on the levels of proinflammatory factors that are associated with hypertension, arterioslcerosis, thromoembolitic conditions, myocardial infarction, stroke, and diabetes mellitus. Controlling periodontal disease aids in managing the others.
